Modern Fuel

Just a half an hour drive from Titusville, where the modern oil industry began with Colonel Drake in 18xx, North Pier is transforming the way we create fuel.  As our country and its relationship to fuel continues to diversify and develop, so does the energy industry. North Pier is focused on clean, domestic, reliable and efficient fuel production through the process of liquefying natural gas: the next generation of American fuel.

In recent years, fuel for trucks, trains, and ships has been created through the conversion of crude oil to diesel.  In the 1950’s and 60’s diesel was an improvement over coal for trains and ships, but it’s not without a cost.  Diesel still generates a lot of pollution and high carbon emissions, contributing to concerns about diesel’s effect on people’s health, the atmosphere, and climate change.

We at North Pier understand our role in the modernized fuel industry as creating Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) to power heavy machinery, trucks, trains and ships. Utilizing domestic resources allows us to reduce our foreign dependence on oil, while creating a cleaner domestic fuel with less impact on our environment.  At our small scale facilities we create cost effective, environmentally friendly liquid natural gas—a better way to fuel America.

LNG is a clean, safe domestic fuel. LNG has been safely loaded onto and carried by ships for more than 50 years. According to Captain Stephen Brown, president of the Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia, the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) calculates that more than 80,000 LNG cargoes have been safely delivered, with no loss of cargo tank containment and no on-board fatalities attributable to cargo operations. That’s an enviable record of achievement in any mode of transportation.

LNG is a clear, colorless, odorless and non-toxic liquid form of natural gas is cooled to -263 degrees Fahrenheit (-162 degrees Celsius). The cooling process shrinks the volume of the gas 600 times allowing for an easier and less costly transport. As a cold, clean liquid, the natural gas can be pumped into heavy equipment fuel tanks, which are similar to thermos bottles. LNG is the next generation of fuel for American industry.

North Pier LNG

Projects

North Pier is currently developing a small-scale processing and distribution facility near an existing pipeline in western Pennsylvania to provide low cost, clean, efficient LNG to the Great Lake Region.

Our customers will include local companies operating trucks and heavy equipment, helping them to both reduce emissions and be more competitive.

Our project meets and exceeds all federal regulations for the safe production and transport of LNG.  Production is schedule to begin in mid-2016.
